The first to be given the name “Al-Kaff” was Walliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Abi Bakar Al-Djufri.

There are two versions of how this title was given to him:

 

Version 1

The first version of how Walliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad Abdullah Al-Djufri received this title, was due to a man who started an argument with him. This man declared that he had an extra-ordinary power and that this power he had acquired was very strong. But when confronted, Walliyullah Ahmad was able to find out the degree of this person strength. Hence, due to this remarkable ability, Waliyullah Ahmad was given the name “AlKaf”. In the Hadhrami dialect, to know someone’s ability is “Kaf”.

Version 2

The second version states that this name was given to him due to an argument between him and another individual. The case between both of them was brought forward to be judged. The Judge asked for both sides to fill a bottle with an elixir (formula) but not to label the containers with their respective name. But instead to label the containers with an Abjad (Abjad is the Arabic Lettering System) to label the containers. Waliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad was said to have written the letter “Kaf” on his container. The Judge than enquired as to the individual who wrote the letter “Kaf”. Upon which Waliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad said “It was me who wrote that letter”. From then forth he was known to community in that vicinity as “AlKaf”.

Walliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad was born in the city of Tarim. He had a two sons by the name of AbuBakr and Muhammad.

Waliyyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad Al-Kaf passed away in the city of Tarim in 911 Hijriyyah.

Yang pertama kali dijuluki (digelari) "Al-Kaf" adalah Walliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Abi Bakar Al-Djufri.
So’al gelar yang disandangnya ada 2 versi penyebabnya.

 

Versi pertama mengatakan bahwa terjadi pertengkaran antara waliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad dengan seorang yang mengaku dirinya seorang jagoan yang mempunyai kekuatan yang luar biasa, tetapi bisa ditaklukan oleh waliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad. Dengan kekuatannya tadi maka Beliau oleh masyarakat setempat dijuluki "AlKaf" seperti diketahui kekuatan seseorang itu dalam bahasa Hadramaut disebut "Kaf".

 

Versi kedua mengatakan bahwa adanya suatu perkara perkelahian waliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad dengan seseorang dan dimajukan di Pengadilan, Hakim meminta supaya kedua belah fihak mengisi formulir dengan tanpa menyebutkan namanya masing-masing tetapi diperintahkan untuk menyebutkan sebuah kode. Salah satu huruf abjad Arab dalam huruf tadi, maka waliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad menulis huruf abjad "Kaf”. Setelah hakim menanyakan siapa yang menulis huruf "Kaf" maka waliyullah menjawab : ‘saya yang menulisnya’. Sejak itu Beliau dijuluki masyarakat setempat dengan "AlKaf”

 
Waliyullah Ahmad bin Muhammad Al-Kaf dilahirkan di kota Tarim. Dikaruniai 2 orang anak lelaki yang menurunkan keturunannya, masing-masing bernama Abubakar dan Muhammad.

Waliyullah Ahmad Al-Kaf pulang ke Rahmatullah di kota Tarim pada tahun 911 Hijriyyah.

 

Semoga Allah SWT memasukkan Beliau-Beliau ke dalam Surga dan menghimpunkannya bersama-sama para Nabi, para Syuhada, para Auliya dan para Sholihin. Amin !.
