Abu Bakr bin Ali bin Muhammad Kharid was a Ba Alawi scholar of Tarim. Al-Mashra al-Rawi describes him as known by the epithet al-Allam and places him in the Kharid family line descending through al-Faqih al-Muqaddam. Born and raised in Tarim, he studied jurisprudence with local scholars and kept company with Ahmad bin Alawi Bahdab and Husayn bin al-Aydarus. The source records that he later taught after the evening prayer in Masjid Bani Alawi and that numerous students attended his lessons. He died in Tarim in 1007 AH and was buried in Zanbal Cemetery. Devotional assessments of his spiritual rank in the source are not presented as independently verifiable historical claims.
