Abd al-Rahman bin Ali Ba Hasan al-Huwayli was a Ba Alawi scholar born in Tarim and associated in later life with al-Qarah in Hadramawt. Al-Mashra al-Rawi preserves his lineage through the Ba Hasan al-Huwayli branch and ultimately through Ahmad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Alawi bin Muhammad Sahib Mirbat.
The source describes Abd al-Rahman as pursuing jurisprudence and tasawwuf while becoming especially distinguished in Arabic and literary studies. It records his reputation for quick and eloquent answers to difficult questions, as well as letters and poetry that circulated among scholars. He also took particular interest in the verse of Umar bin Abdullah Bamakhramah, collecting and explaining difficult passages from it.
Abd al-Rahman later settled at al-Qarah, where the source describes him teaching, assisting visitors and maintaining a household open to travellers and people in need. Al-Mashra al-Rawi dates his death there to 1037 AH. A later biographical compilation independently preserves the same full identity, Tarim origin, literary specialization, residence at al-Qarah and death year.
