، قِيلَ لَهُ : هَذَا غُلامُ بَنِي فُلانٍ شَاعِرٌ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ : " كَيْفَ تَقُولُ ؟ " قَالَ : أُوَدِّعُ سَلْمَى إِنْ تَجَهَّزْتُ غَازِيًا كَفَى الشَّيْبُ وَالإِسْلامُ لِلْمَرْءِ نَاهِيًا ، قَالَ عُمَرُ : " صَدَقْتَ " .
