لِرَجُلٍ كَانَ مَعَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ فَأُهْزِمَ : " هَلْ لَكَ فِي الشَّامِ , فَإِنَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَدْ رَقُّوا بِهَا , وَإِنَّ الْعَدُوَّ قَدْ ذَئِرُوا بِهِمْ " ، قَالَ : لا , الأَرْضُ الَّتِي فَرَرْتَ مِنْهَا ! " .
