أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو نَصْرٍ , عَنِ الأَصْمَعِيِّ , " يُقَالُ : أَشَفَّ فُلانٌ بَعْضَ بَنِيهِ أَيْ فَضَّلَهُمْ , وَمَا أَقْرَبَ الشَّفُّ بَيْنَهُمَا أَيْ فَضَّلَ , وَفُلانٌ حَرِيصٌ عَلَى الشَّفَّ أَيِ الرِّبْحِ " .
