سَمِعْتُ وَكِيعًا , يَقُولُ : كُنَّا نَتَذَاكَرُ أَنَا وَابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، حَتَّى نَسْتَغْفِرَ اللَّهَ فِي مَجْلِسِنَا " وَسَمِعْنَاهُ يَقُولُ : " زَعَمُوا أَنَّ الْحَجَّاجَ بْنَ أَرْطَأَةَ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنَ الزُّهْرِيِّ شَيْئًا " .
