رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ حَمَلَ قِرْبَةً عَلَى عُنُقِهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ! مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى هَذَا ؟ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ نَفْسِي أَعْجَبَتْنِي ، فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُذِلَّهَا " .
