وَفَدَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَصَحِبَهُ بَشَرٌ كَثِيرٌ فِي الرُّفْقَةِ ، فَكَانَ يُمَوِّنُهُمْ وَلَمْ يَدَعْ أَحَدًا مِنْهُم يُوقِدُ نَارًا ، وَلا يَتَكَلَّفُ شَيْئًا حَتَّى وَرَدَ الشَّامَ " .
