مِنْ أَطْوَلِ النَّاسِ سُكُوتًا وَأَقَلِّهِمْ كَلامًا . وَكَانَ يَقُولُ : أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْفِتْنَةِ ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْفِتْنَةِ . ثُمَّ عُرِضَتْ لَهُ فِتْنَةٌ عَظِيمَةٌ " .
