Surah 89 · 30 ayat

Al-Fajr

The Dawn

الفجر

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

89:1

وَٱلْفَجْرِ

MeaningBy the Dawn

89:2

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ

MeaningAnd ten nights,

89:3

وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ

MeaningAnd the Even and the Odd,

89:4

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

MeaningAnd the night when it departeth,

89:5

هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ

MeaningThere surely is an oath for thinking man.

89:6

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

MeaningDost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad,

89:7

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ

MeaningWith many-columned Iram,

89:8

ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ

MeaningThe like of which was not created in the lands;

89:9

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ

MeaningAnd with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley;

89:10

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ

MeaningAnd with Pharaoh, firm of might,

89:11

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ

MeaningWho (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands,

89:12

فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ

MeaningAnd multiplied iniquity therein?

89:13

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ

MeaningTherefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment.

89:14

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ

MeaningLo! thy Lord is ever watchful.

89:15

فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ

MeaningAs for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me.

89:16

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ

MeaningBut whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me.

89:17

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ

MeaningNay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan

89:18

وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ

MeaningAnd urge not on the feeding of the poor.

89:19

وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا

MeaningAnd ye devour heritages with devouring greed.

89:20

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا

MeaningAnd love wealth with abounding love.

89:21

كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا

MeaningNay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding,

89:22

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا

MeaningAnd thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank,

89:23

وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ

MeaningAnd hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)?

89:24

يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى

MeaningHe will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life!

89:25

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ

MeaningNone punisheth as He will punish on that day!

89:26

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ

MeaningNone bindeth as He then will bind.

89:27

يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ

MeaningBut ah! thou soul at peace!

89:28

ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً

MeaningReturn unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure!

89:29

فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى

MeaningEnter thou among My bondmen!

89:30

وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى

MeaningEnter thou My Garden!
