Abu Bakr bin Ahmad was a Ba Alawi scholar born in Tarim in 990 AH. His biography in Al-Mashra al-Rawi was written by his son, the compiler of the work, and situates him in the line descending through Imam Abdullah bin Alawi and al-Faqih al-Muqaddam. He memorised the Quran with Umar bin Abdullah al-Khatib and pursued the Islamic sciences with scholars in Tarim and elsewhere. The source records journeys through the valleys of Hadramawt and to Aden, where he continued his studies, and describes his involvement in teaching and the transmission of religious works. He died in 1053 AH. Personal devotional recollections preserved by his son are treated as part of the source tradition rather than independently verifiable events.
