Habib Hasan bin Ahmad Ibn Shaykh Abu Bakr bin Salim, often referred to as Habib Hasan al-Mansib, was a senior religious and social figure of Hadramawt and the head of the family of Shaykh Abu Bakr bin Salim. Muwasala describes the office of Mansib as carrying responsibility for the clan and, in his case, a wider representative role within the School of Hadramawt and the Ba Alawi tradition.
In his youth he pursued religious study and attended the Ribat of Tarim. His father, Habib Ahmad, was an influential figure in Hadramawt. After his father’s death around 1414 AH, corresponding to 1994, Habib Hasan assumed the responsibilities of the Mansib. He held that role for roughly thirty three years.
His work combined religious leadership with practical community service. The source records that he helped resolve disputes, responded to people’s needs and maintained family and scholarly connections beyond Yemen. He travelled regularly to Indonesia and other countries, led the annual visit to the Prophet Hud and presided over important communal gatherings.
Habib Hasan died in Jordan on 24 Shaban 1447 AH, corresponding to 12 February 2026. His funeral in Hadramawt drew people from across the region and from further afield.
