How should I read this archive record?

Older entries may combine published scholarship, family or community tradition, inherited terminology and historical interpretation. Uncited claims are a starting point for further source review rather than certification.

Abdullah bin Muhammad Sahib Mirbat was an early member of the Ba Alawi scholarly line, the son of Muhammad Sahib Mirbat and grandson of Ali Khali Qasam. The surviving notice preserved in Al-Mashra al-Rawi is brief, but it contains unusually specific evidence for his connection with hadith transmission.

Citing Ghurar al-Baha al-Dawi, the biography records an ijazah written by the scholar Muhammad bin Ali al-Qala’i. The note says that Abdullah was reading while the jurist Abu al-Qasim bin Faris bin Madi listened, and that al-Qala’i granted both men authorization in Jami al-Tirmidhi and other works. The ijazah was dated 575 AH.

A later notice in Idam al-Qut identifies the same Abdullah bin Muhammad Sahib Mirbat, repeats the 575 AH ijazah context from al-Ghurar, and gives his death as 592 AH. Muhammad bin Abi Bakr Badhīb’s modern study of Hadrami Shafi’i scholarship independently identifies Abdullah as the son of Muhammad Sahib Mirbat, traces the same lineage, and records his reading of Jami al-Tirmidhi with al-Qala’i.

Al-Mashra al-Rawi itself says that another report gave Abdullah’s death as 592 AH. The later Idam al-Qut notice also gives 592 AH, so that date is retained here while the dated 575 AH ijazah remains the clearest surviving event in his scholarly life.

Lineage and source note

Primary source: Al-Mashra al-Rawi fi Manaqib al-Sada al-Kiram Al Abi Alawi, volume 2, notice of Abdullah bin Muhammad Sahib Mirbat. The primary notice transmits the earlier Ghurar al-Baha al-Dawi report and the substance of Muhammad bin Ali al-Qala’i’s ijazah dated 575 AH.

The later Idam al-Qut fi Dhikr Buldan Hadramawt names Abdullah bin Muhammad Sahib Mirbat directly, preserves the same dated authorization, and gives 592 AH as his death year. Muhammad bin Abi Bakr Badhīb’s Juhud Fuqaha Hadramawt fi Khidmat al-Madhhab al-Shafi’i independently identifies the exact Abdullah through his father Muhammad Sahib Mirbat and records the same hadith-learning context.

Scholarly connections

The surviving evidence connects Abdullah with Muhammad bin Ali al-Qala’i through a documented reading and ijazah in Jami al-Tirmidhi. Abu al-Qasim bin Faris bin Madi was present as a listener in the same authorization. The notice is too brief to justify broader claims about the form or duration of either relationship.
