How should I read this archive record?

Older entries may combine published scholarship, family or community tradition, inherited terminology and historical interpretation. Uncited claims are a starting point for further source review rather than certification.

Abu Bakr bin Ahmad bin al-Faqih Muhammad bin Ali Ba Alawi was an early Ba Alawi figure of Tarim. Ibn Abi Makhramah preserves his fuller lineage as Abu Bakr bin Ahmad bin al-Faqih Muhammad bin Ali bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Alawi Ba Alawi.

Al-Mashra al-Rawi records that Abu Bakr was born and raised in Tarim. It says that he kept the company of his grandfather and father and also benefited from his uncles Alawi and Abdullah. The same biography names Ahmad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Alawi bin Muhammad Sahib Mirbat among those from whom he benefited.

The source portrays Abu Bakr as devoted to worship and remembrance. It describes his regular attendance at congregational prayer, periods of seclusion in mosques and study of material in jurisprudence relating to acts of worship. It also transmits traditional accounts of karamat associated with him. These accounts are preserved here as part of the received devotional biography rather than presented as independently verifiable events.

Al-Mashra al-Rawi records that Abu Bakr died on a Monday in 705 AH. This chronology is independently preserved in Ibn Abi Makhramah’s earlier Qiladat al-Nahr, which gives his exact lineage and states that he died in 705 AH.

Lineage and source note

Primary biographical source: Al-Mashra al-Rawi fi Manaqib al-Sada al-Kiram Al Abi Alawi, volume 2, biography of Abu Bakr bin Ahmad in the line of al-Faqih al-Muqaddam. The section records his Tarim upbringing, family and scholarly associations, devotional life and death in 705 AH.

Independent exact-person witness: Ibn Abi Makhramah, Qiladat al-Nahr fi Wafayat Ayan al-Dahr, volume 6, page 36, entry 3594. The entry gives the full lineage Abu Bakr bin Ahmad bin al-Faqih Muhammad bin Ali bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Alawi Ba Alawi and independently preserves the 705 AH death year. Ibn Abi Makhramah died in 947 AH, before Muhammad bin Abi Bakr al-Shilli, author of Al-Mashra al-Rawi, was born.

The same Qiladat entry quotes an earlier report from Abd al-Rahman al-Khatib’s al-Jawhar al-Shafaf. That quoted report is source-dependent and is not counted as a separate independent witness. The full lineage and 705 AH death in Qiladat are the corroborating identity and chronology used here.

Scholarly connections

The primary biography names family members and Ahmad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Alawi bin Muhammad Sahib Mirbat among those from whom Abu Bakr benefited. No structured teacher or student relationship is asserted here because the exact canonical targets and relationship semantics remain unresolved.
