Surah 54 · 55 ayat

Al-Qamar

The Moon

القمر

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

54:1

ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ

MeaningThe hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain.

54:2

وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ

MeaningAnd if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion.

54:3

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ

MeaningThey denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision.

54:4

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ

MeaningAnd surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter,

54:5

حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ

MeaningEffective wisdom; but warnings avail not.

54:6

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ

MeaningSo withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing.

54:7

خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ

MeaningWith downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad,

54:8

مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ

MeaningHastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day.

54:9

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ

MeaningThe folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed.

54:10

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ

MeaningSo he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help.

54:11

فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ

MeaningThen opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water

54:12

وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ

MeaningAnd caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose.

54:13

وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ

MeaningAnd We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails,

54:14

تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ

MeaningThat ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected.

54:15

وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

MeaningAnd verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth?

54:16

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

MeaningThen see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings!

54:17

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

MeaningAnd in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?

54:18

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

Meaning(The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings.

54:19

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ

MeaningLo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity,

54:20

تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ

MeaningSweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees.

54:21

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

MeaningThen see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings!

54:22

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

MeaningAnd in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?

54:23

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

Meaning(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings

54:24

فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ

MeaningFor they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness.

54:25

أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ

MeaningHath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar.

54:26

سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ

Meaning(Unto their warner it was said): To-morrow they will know who is the rash liar.

54:27

إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ

MeaningLo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience;

54:28

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ

MeaningAnd inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Every drinking will be witnessed.

54:29

فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ

MeaningBut they call their comrade and he took and hamstrung (her).

54:30

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

MeaningThen see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings!

54:31

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ

MeaningLo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold.

54:32

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

MeaningAnd in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?

54:33

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

MeaningThe folk of Lot rejected warnings.

54:34

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ

MeaningLo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night,

54:35

نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ

MeaningAs grace from Us. Thus We reward him who giveth thanks.

54:36

وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

MeaningAnd he indeed had warned them of Our blow, but they did doubt the warnings.

54:37

وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

MeaningThey even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings!

54:38

وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ

MeaningAnd in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning.

54:39

فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

MeaningNow taste My punishment after My warnings!

54:40

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

MeaningAnd in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth?

54:41

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ

MeaningAnd warnings came in truth unto the house of Pharaoh

54:42

كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ

MeaningWho denied Our revelations, every one. Therefore We grasped them with the grasp of the Mighty, the Powerful.

54:43

أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ

MeaningAre your disbelievers better than those, or have ye some immunity in the scriptures?

54:44

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ

MeaningOr say they: We are a host victorious?

54:45

سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ

MeaningThe hosts will all be routed and will turn and flee.

54:46

بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ

MeaningNay, but the Hour (of doom) is their appointed tryst, and the Hour will be more wretched and more bitter (than their earthly failure).

54:47

إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ

MeaningLo! the guilty are in error and madness.

54:48

يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ

MeaningOn the day when they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces (it is said unto them): Feel the touch of hell.

54:49

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ

MeaningLo! We have created every thing by measure.

54:50

وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ

MeaningAnd Our commandment is but one (commandment), as the twinkling of an eye.

54:51

وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

MeaningAnd verily We have destroyed your fellows; but is there any that remembereth?

54:52

وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ

MeaningAnd every thing they did is in the scriptures,

54:53

وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ

MeaningAnd every small and great thing is recorded.

54:54

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ

MeaningLo! the righteous will dwell among gardens and rivers,

54:55

فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ

MeaningFirmly established in the favour of a Mighty King.
